Missing Dollar

October 4th, 2006 by zq

It has been years since I first got to answer this puzzle (my high school period). I spent nearly an hour to crack it, it had been fun though. Not until a minute ago, I came across the very same puzzle again. I may say that only small parts of the hint remain in my head. For the second time, i beat it again, in a much shorter time and more effective way than the first (of course, duh!).

The Question:
3 businessmen are on a trip and share a hotel room for the evening.  The bill
comes to 30 dollars (it’s a cheap hotel) so each businessman pays his even share
- 10 dollars.  They head up to their room and the cashier realizes he’s made a
mistake.  He forgot that there’s a special rate for the evening and that he
should have only charged the businessmen 25 dollars (it’s a REALLY cheap
hotel).  The cashier then instructs the bellboy to run up to the room and refund
the 5 dollars to the businessmen.  With his incredible insight, the bellboy
realizes that the businessmen cannot easily split the 5 dollars between the 3 of
them.  So instead he pockets 2 dollars and returns 3 dollars to the
businessmen.  The 3 dollars is returned and each businessman gets a dollar
back.

At this point each businessman has payed 9 dollars out of his own
pocket, making a grand total of 27 dollars paid for the room.  Combine that with
the 2 dollars that the bellboy kept yields 29 dollars.  So, where’s the missing
dollar?

If you happen to know the answer to this, please dont spoil the fun for others, alrite?
Nuff said, any attempt?

Jerry McGuire

What more can be said about this movie?
I just love it, I JUST LOVE IT!!!

The most romantic picture ever. I mean, what can possibly be more
perfect than Tom Cruise + Renee Zellweger + Cuba Gooding Jr in a scene?

Jerry_maguire_3
By far, this is the best appearance Renee has ever made.

In fact, if I happened to be one of the Academy award judges, I
would definitely present Renee with Best Leading Actress award. Not to
forget, Tom Cruise as well.
Cuba got his in Best Supporting Actor though, that guy is a smart
comedian for real!

It is a fine display of unbelievably great talents on both ends of the camera.
I
cannot say more on the casting and acting because I might just run a
new distaste onto the mood by any chance ^^ No more comment, definitely
the best romantic movie I have ever seen.

Jerrymaguire
"I miss my wife"

Here are popular quotes from the movie, and dialogs collected from
the scenes, along with the soundtrack lyric by Bruce Springsteen:

Secret Garden (Ost. Jerry McGuire)
by Bruce Springsteen

(On the morning after their first date, in the kitchen where Jerry happened to overhear)
Dorothy
: I was just about to tell you

Laurel : (uh huh)

Dorothy : that I love him, I do, I love him I love him, and I don’t
care what you think, I love him for the man he wants to be, and I love
him for the man he almost is! I love him laurel I love him I love him..

(Bruce)

She’ll let you in her house

If you come knockin’ late at night

She’ll let you in her mouth

If the words you say are right

If you pay the price

She’ll let you deep inside

But there’s a secret garden she hides

Rod : You got to be fair to her she loves you if you don’t love her youve got to tell her

(Bruce)

She’ll let you in her car

To go drivin’ round

She’ll let you into the parts of herself

That’ll bring you down

She’ll let you in her heart if you got a hammer and a vise

But into her secret garden, don’t think twice

(Just before Laurel leaves for San Diego)
Jerry : What if we got married if I said that would you stay?
Dorothy : No no don’t do that don’t say that unless..

(Bruce)

You’ve gone a million miles

Dorothy : Well you can say if you want to
*nervous chuckle*

(Bruce)

How far’d you get

Jerry : Will you marry me?

(Bruce)
To that place where you can’t remember

Jerry : What are you thinking?

(Bruce)

And you can’t forget

Dorothy : *storming into the house* Laurel, we’re getting married!

(Bruce)

She’ll lead you down a path

There’ll be tenderness in the air

She’ll let you come just far enough

So you know she’s really there

She’ll look at you and smile

And her eyes will say

She’s got a secret garden

Where everything you want

Where everything you need

Will always stay

A million miles away

Priest : Do you Jerry Mcguire take this women to be your lawfully wedded
wife? And, do you Dorothy Boyd take this man to be your
lawfully wedded husband?
I now pronounce you husband and wife

(At the break up)
Dorothy : I pretended that proposal by the car was real
and it might have been just a hypothetical. I did this and at least I can do something about it now

Jerry : So once it’s break, it’s break *sighs*
Dorothy : Come on Jerry you know this isn’t easy for me

Jerry : Okay okay.. if this is where it has to end, this is where it has to
happen.
I’m not letting you get rid of me! How about that?
I miss my wife..
I Love You.
You..
……….
Complete
Me!

and I just ha…

Dorothy : Just shut up. Just shut up. You had me at "hello", you had me at "hello".

The underlined sentences are my favourite really d=)
"You
complete me" saying actually comes from a deaf couple Jerry &
Dorothy met at the lift. Of course, they expressed it in sign language.
Please tell me what you think of them.
Thank you for bearing this with me heheh, until then..

Memoirs of ‘Memoirs Of A Geisha’

Memoirs1

Suzuka Ohgo (Chiyo), cute isn’t she?

Well as a starter, I include some researches and my comments on them.. Please bear this with me kay hehe…. A deep breath….. Here goes nothing……

User Reviews from Yahoo! Movies:

1. JeehooKim

"As someone who has read the book and understand its cultural context, and also an Asian by birth, I am embarassed by certain aspects of this movie. First, I do not agree with casting a couple of well-known Chinese actresses as lead for this movie. The studio points out that the nationality of a thespian has nothing to do with her role. Normally this would be absolutely true, but in this particular case the Studio shoudl have taken more care. Zhang Ziyi is an internationally famous Hong Kong actress whose face is instantly recognizable to many; casting her in the role of a Japanese geisha raises many historical and cultural conflicts that need not have been there at all. Many viewers, especially Asians, will be bothered thruout the movie by her role and presence. Same goes with the chinese actress cast as her mentor, Yao."

ZQ: Oh what is the Asian for ‘the comment is full of bull crap’? The casting is, if not the best, one of the excellence values in this production. By the way, only 40% of readers think this comment is helpful, well, im among the 60%.

2. nextxfreak

"In spite of the controversy over the casting, there is no denying the talent of the cast. The casting, in my opinion, was brilliant, with each actor and actress portraying their characters wonderfully.
With this movie, it’s what’s not said that’s the most intriguing. There’s so much room for thought. And the pace of the movie was just right. There was enough action without sacrificing any introspective, emotional moments.
The highlight of the movie was the dance. I don’t want to spoil it, but it was stunning.
This movie definitely is an Oscar contender."

ZQ: why is the casting a problem actually? whether they are chinese or japanese? On the contrary, the casting was purrfect. I cant agree more with this guy. I hope i can write a quality comment like this later on. Room for thought, hmm well, i do not know what was on the viewer’s mind, I myself actually gave a lot of effort to define what the writer tried to say and predicting the upcoming scenes, starting precisely from Chiyo’s first encounter with The Chairman at the bridge.

Ken_watanabe15

By this point, all key pro and con characters had made their appearances, along with their personal interests and roles. Excellent motion picture for hillarious novel..

By the way do NOT be a passive viewer if you wish satisfaction, this way one can always make sure that she would be awarded fun, ecstasy and thrill from all kinds of film-feeds d=) "believe me ~ fort minor" huahuahua

3. twotacosfor1buck

"Quiet, reserveddelicate. Beautiful and emotional.
It proves that you don’t need to be nude to show sexiness. You don’t need blood or gore to be violent. Something that attracted me to this mysterious sect of Japanese culture.
I was never one who really cared for foreign films. Often times, I have a hard time understanding thick accents and I lose the focus of the movie. This was not the case at all.
The story line was wonderful. A love story which was delicate, simple… yet more powerful than any romance that I’ve seen lately. It was very interesting to see and understand what exactly a geisha is. I for one, had no idea before going to see this film.
The movie was long, but it wasn’t painful to sit through. My only problem with the movie was that I didn’t see a resolution coming until the very, very end of the movie."

ZQ: Yes yes yes. Kinda weird though, I did not see a resolution coming until the very end. I even had the feeling that it would be a sad-ending romance, since there are just too much mountains and sky to conquer, and again, there is no slightest glimpse of resolution until the meeting at the garden. Hee wat a surprise! The ending is wrapped quite nicely.

The solo dance by Sayuri.

She entered the stage by walking down the path on her super-high shoes and an umbrella on her hands. It started snowing as she took her first steps. She stopped and opened the umbrella, covering her body from the snow. Dance and danced as the weather got worse. A gust of wind struck in and sent the umbrella away, she tried to hold on, after a few spin, she lost it. At this point, it was dark and cold, and she was alone and lost. She paced herself in no direction and tried to reach forward, forward and more forward until she finally collapsed onto the stack of snow. Full silence and peace followed. One last move Sayuri stirred was leaning backward and lifting her chin upward with her hands joining in the air above her. She resuscitated!

" In this proud land we grew up strong
we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win

no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I’ve changed my face, I’ve changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose

don’t give up
‘cos you have friends
don’t give up
you’re not beaten yet
don’t give up
I know you can make it good

though I saw it all around
never thought I could be affected
thought that we’d be the last to go
it is so strange the way things turn

rest your head
you worry too much
it’s going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don’t give up
please don’t give up

‘got to walk out of here
I can’t take anymore
going to stand on that bridge
keep my eyes down below
whatever may come
and whatever may go
that river’s flowing
that river’s flowing

don’t give up
’cause you have friends
don’t give up
you’re not the only one
don’t give up
no reason to be ashamed
don’t give up
you still have us
don’t give up now
we’re proud of who you are
don’t give up
you know it’s never been easy
don’t give up
’cause I believe there’s the a place

Had a gud video conversation with medan fren, laughed like hell, suddenly i miss d town n ppl..

Dis morning, dreamt about my dog. Its not a gud dream tho. This was the fifth time i dream of my dog since d new sem started. Miss him terribly now..

Email 2 frenz in medan, d first was askin for sum help, d other one was getting to noe each other better. Im happy to still b able to accomodate my frenz ^_^ appreciate dat!

Went to support a fren on her tournament match, but we turned up late. Im very sorry bout dis, i ll make it up tomolo k ^_*

Dad asked me to search d internet for some business purposes. Well, it was a gud start, got wat we need for a particular item. Family is d priority, not money.

Chatted with a fren, i felt dat i was being aroused, not d first time really. Do i havta act cool again? Oh man dat was pathetic.

Lesson for today: there are ups n downs in life, as well in frenship. But if there r more downs than ups, i would better give it up then. A fren dat comes fast will leave u as fast. Time is always my best fren in frenship.
